Trip to Killygarry Old School
On Friday, we went on a visit to the old Killygarry school, located on the main Dublin Rd beside the graveyard. The school was in use from 1894-1998 (104 years).
It was very interesting for us to see the old school rooms, solid fuel stoves, blackboards and outside toilets. We even got to sit in the old wooden desks with the inkwells. Ms Kennedy came with us and told us all about day-to-day life in the old school. There were a lot of questions asked about the sally rod!
We are currently working on a Time-Line which will show a summary of the history of Killygarry NS. Perhaps some of the parents who attended Killygarry school will post comments on what school life was like in the Old School.
